Back Of The Book

When Lucy Jacobs is made redundant from her inner-city teaching job she fears her career is over. Teaching is all Lucy knows and she’s determined to get back in the classroom as fast as she can.

Except the only job on offer is at an idyllic village school in the middle of nowhere – Lucy’s idea of hell. Where are the disadvantaged kids who need saving, where is the challenge?

But as Lucy finds herself welcomed into the warm-hearted community of Langtry Meadows, she begins to realise new challenges await – like frogs in the classroom, a rather difficult donkey, and a very brooding local vet…

Local boy Charlie Davenport has his own issues about living in the close-knit village of Langtry Meadows. His private life is already fuel for the well-meaning gossips and the very last thing he needs is to get close to the new school teacher…no matter how lovely she is.

But as summer days drift away Langtry Meadows weaves its magic, Charlie and Lucy both get the chance to turn over a new leaf and start anew…maybe with each other?

A fun, romantic story to make you smile and long for your own country escape.

My Review

The Cover

I love the cover, it’s bright and inviting. It really stands out and if I saw it on the shelf I would pick it up.

My Thoughts

So my preconceived notion that the book would a quick easy enjoyable read, was incorrect. Yes, it was enjoyable but it wasn’t the quick read I expected, in fact, it was so good I didn’t want it to end.  I loved the country village of Langtry Meadow, I would move there tomorrow.

The book although light-hearted at times with an array of jovial animals and adventures actually covers some deep rooted issues.  Zara Stoneley, has a marvellous way of weaving a story. In the Summer with a Country Village Vet, we learn about Lucy and Charlie and their fight to battle life’s troubles and the past, that continue to haunt them. Will they succeed? You will have to pick up a copy of the book to find out.

To summarise my review, I would start by saying  I would recommend this book to my friends and family. I enjoyed the writing style and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another novel by Zara Stoneley. The only thing I didn’t love, was the title. It didn’t speak to me and I felt the book had so much more than the title makes you expect.  But that’s just a personal feeling.  The book takes you on a varied path of mixed emotions. One minute I was laughing out loud the next a trickle of tears rolled down my face. Everything you could possibly want from a book. A story with a beautiful core. I am hoping there will be a sequel. I definitely want to visit Langtry Meadow again and again.

Meet Me At The Lighthouse Mary Jayne Baker @MaryJayneBaker #Review @HarperImpulse

Today I am on the blog tour for Meet Me At The Lighthouse by Mary Jayne Baker. Published by Harper Impulse on September 7th, 2017.

Meet Me At The Lighthouse  ~ Review

The cover is very pretty, vibrant and memorable. It compliments the story perfectly.  The book was incredibly refreshing. There are 1000’s of romance novels on sale and often they can become mundane, repetitive and bland.  Not in the case of Meet Me At The Lighthouse, Baker manages to keep her story refreshing and on point. With intricate side stories threaded through the main event.  There was never a dull moment or a need to skim.

Bobbie is a unique and loveable character, I  have to be honest and reveal that every time they said Miss Hannigan, I was immediately blasted back to the 1980’s movie Annie and I giggled each time. Bobbie is a modern women, strong, independent and someone I would like to know.

Baker has done a very good job of keeping the book modern without any cliche long drawn out scenes of lovey dovey nonsense.  The book is witty, engaging and sentimental.

I recommend the book to lovers of love and to those who like to remember those gone before us and how important it is for us to keep shining a light for them.

The day I turned 28, I bought a lighthouse and met the love of my life’

Bobbie Hannigan’s life in a cottage by the sea with her dog and her twin sister is perfectly fine … until she decides the logical thing is to buy a lighthouse and open a music venue with Ross Mason, the first boy she ever kissed.

Bobbie tries to be professional with Ross, but the happily-ever-after they’re working toward is too good to resist. That is until someone from his past crawls back to cause trouble. Can Bobbie look past the secrets Ross has been keeping from her? Or will the boy, the lighthouse, and the dream all slip away?

Huge thanks to Harper Impulse and Mary Jayne Baker for the opportunity to be on the tour and for the ARC.

My turn on this fabulous tour for Summer at the Little Wedding by Jane Linfoot. I am so pleased to see so many of my blogger friends on the tour too.

Review By Kelly

The book has a beautiful cover, it’s a perfect example of Summer, light and bright with flowers.  I thoroughly enjoyed the book. As someone who has not read the previous two books I was worried about not understanding story lines that may have come through from previous story lines, but at no point did that happen.  It flows easily, with lovable, funny and fuzzy characters.

I didn’t think my emotions would be tested but they were and at times I was reaching for the tissues and wiping a tear away. Other moments I was laughing out loud and smiling from cheek to cheek. To me that’s the ultimate test of a book, if it makes me connect and care.  If I am investing more than just time into reading the book and I find I begin to care what happens then that pleases me.

You will wish the characters and shop were real so that you could visit and try those delicious sweet treats.  But you can, in your own way,  you just pick up the book and jump in.

I will not hesitate to read the first two books and anymore adventures at the wedding shop.

What is your favourite book and why?

The Bible. The stories are full of life, love, and wisdom.

How did you pick the title of your book?

I wanted to do a ‘global millionaire series’ and since Italy is very romantic, I thought what better than a hot Italian Millionaire hero, and since the heroine keeps running away… voila! Italian Millionaire, Runaway Principessa.

No, although people in movies, songs, dance, and everyday life inspire.

What’s your favourite word?

Who is your favourite Author?

I have several: Kathleen D. Woodiwiss, Johanna Lindsey, Jude Deveraux, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jane Porter.

Where in the world is your happy place?

I love the beach. I find the sea energizing.

Infamous Italian neurosurgeon, Peter Medeci, has a score to settle with his estranged wife: her reckless bid for independence has nearly destroyed his medical career.

Ellie, desperate to reassert herself as more than his bedroom playmate, flees the ‘fairytale’ for a gig in a Hollywood club until Peter comes looking for her. For her freedom, Ellie must spend the next three weeks being the ‘good doctor’s wife’ in public…and his mistress in private!

For all you hopeful writers… Pantser or Planner? Writing a series.
If you are a very organised writer (unlike me) then to plan your series you probably started with an ending and take steps backwards in a story, plotting them through a chart and timelines, and marking relevant events and links that you want to put in and create.

My head likes to start with a vision at the beginning, I see an opening scene, as though the book is a film, and then my characters tell me where they want it to go.

Advantages to being a planner: You can fully think the whole thing through and know where your next scene is taking you and why.

Disadvantages: If you know where you’re going, generally so does your reader as you leak in the clues.

Now there are three ways to manage a plot twist…

  1. Let the reader know right from the outset so they are in on a character’s secret but have the suspense of waiting to see the impact on others (I have used that in a couple of my stories).  For instance in The Illicit Love of a Courtesan I mention that she has a son at the very beginning and an editor asked me if I wanted to take the thought out. I left it in because I wanted the reader to be wondering how that would impact on her future.
  2. To hint in the book that a plot change is coming, so threading clues through. I have done this in most books, usually by back tracking as I don’t plan, but I think there’s an excitement in reading and thinking you have worked the story out, and know what’s coming but you don’t know when or how it will manifest and another part of you is thinking, am I right?
  3. Give absolutely no clues and then drop the twist in. Now if you are a reader like me my mind starts spinning back through a story trying to work out how on earth that fits, and were there clues I missed. Putting in clues that people miss is something very hard to do, I always guess endings – the film Sixth Sense is running through my mind. But if you are pantser and you don’t think of the plot twist until the point it hits, then no one is going to guess it, are they?

The Marlow Intrigues stories are linked rather than a rolling story, so you can pull out a book in the middle, or pick it up with this book right at the end and still enjoy it without reading the others. But if anyone reads the last book in the Marlow Intrigues series and tells me they guessed what the plot would be, I know they couldn’t have guessed it because I didn’t know it until a year before I began writing the story and that was after the other books were published so sorry there are no clues. Although there is one tiny planned hint that might just make the addicts of the series more alert from the beginning of the book 😉

After years of trying and a failed IVF attempt, Pippa is thrilled to see two little lines appear on a pregnancy test. Finally, a precious baby to call her own. This is all Pippa has ever wanted…if only husband Jason could show just a little excitement.

Imogen…

A baby is the icing on the cake for Imogen and Alice – proof that their love for each other can overcome any obstacle. But when Imogen starts receiving malicious texts, it’s clear that not everyone is thrilled about the girls’ good news.

And Ellie…

A drunken one-night stand and Ellie’s life is ruined! Pregnant, jobless and the relationship with her best friend, Chris, over- forever. Because Chris just happens to be the father of Ellie’s baby…and potentially the love of her life!

For these first time mums, the road to motherhood is bumpier than most!

My Q&A with Lucie Wheeler

If you can tell us a little bit about yourself and your publishing journey.

Thank you SO much for having me here, I feel so honoured to be part of your new author feature. So, a little about me? Well, I live in Essex with my husband and daughter – who is known on social media as LO – and my English Bull Terrier, Dame, who loves to sit under my desk as I write and keep my feet warm. Never one to sit still, I always have lots going on in my life at any one time. Currently, I am writing my novels alongside studying for a degree and working in various placements to broaden my experience with working in education. I spend far too much time on social media – predominantly on Instagram and Facebook – and I try to do a monthly vlog over on my YouTube channel to update everyone with my writing journey alongside all the other things I like to do. I am also very proud to be one of The Romaniacs.

I love reading, spending time with friends and eating chocolate – when I get to do all three, I’m a very happy lady!

Describe yourself using three words?

Driven, messy & helpful

What inspired you to write your first novel?

Quite simply – J K Rowling. I was reading her Harry Potter books and fell in love with the way she made me, the reader, feel. I was at home with my LO and I would spend hours reading and her words made me feel amazing. And I thought, if I could make just one person feel this way by reading something that I wrote, I would be complete. So I started writing.

81GOioVRFnL.jpg

What time of day do you like to write?

Either in the middle of the night or at around 5am. Once I have gone past 8am I’m pretty useless at staying focused on one single task.

What is your favourite book and why?

Earth Abides by George R Stewart. I read this book when I was about 12 and it drew me in like nothing I had ever read before. It was the first adult book I remember reading and becoming absolutely immersed within the story. It had been sitting on my mother’s bookshelf for years when I picked it up and I remember devouring it fairly quickly. It holds a special place in my heart.

4127

How did you pick the title of your book? With the help of my lovely editor, Charlotte. We spoke about the concept of the book over coffee and cake one afternoon and as we were throwing around words and ideas, the title manifested itself.

With the help of my lovely editor, Charlotte. We spoke about the concept of the book over coffee and cake one afternoon and as we were throwing around words and ideas, the title manifested itself.

Are the characters in your book based on real people?

I wouldn’t say they were exactly, however, there are aspects of every character that I have come across in people I have met – and sometimes characteristics that I have! I think for any imagination to function, we draw on aspects of our real life to form the fantasy. So in that sense, certain parts of each character are people that I know and have seen. But no single character is a replica of anyone in particular.

What’s your favourite word? Love

If you were a colour what would it be? Green

Do you plan your story beforehand or go with the flow?

I have to plan a certain amount otherwise I struggle to get the words onto the page. I have actually tried a new technique for the new book I am working on and I have done a mind map type plan for the plot of the story. My stories will always deviate and develop from my initial plan but I like to have a starting point and something to refer to should I get stuck in a rut with a scene or plot line.

Who is your favourite Author?

Wow, that is like asking who my favourite child is! (And I only have one child so that question is always easy!) Erm… can I say a top 5? What do you mean, no? Ok, well my absolute favourite author would have to be JK Rowling because she is my idol. Not for her fame, not for her success but for her determination, hard work, kind heart and amazing talent. Other favourites would be Paige Toon, Giovanna Fletcher, Sue Moorcroft, Dean Koontz, Giselle Green, all the Romaniac ladies… ok, I’ll stop now *whispers – but there are lots more*!

Are you working on a new project? Yes, I am working on my second book with Harper Impulse which I believe is due out towards the second half of this year. It is another story involving a group of mums but this time they embark on a little adventure abroad…

Do you have any events lined up that my readers can attend?

I am actually hoping to have a launch event in September in Chelmsford to meet people and sign copies of The First Time Mums Club. My agent is arranging it as we speak so if anyone thinks it would be something they are interested in, keep your eyes peeled for the date when it has been confirmed!

Cover Reveal, Harper Impulse

**COVER REVEAL** Trust Me ~ @TheAngelaClarke @HarperImpulse

You should know, by now, not to trust anything you see online.

But what if you saw something you shouldn’t … Something that you’re sure was real – and no one believed you?

That’s right, Angela Clarke is BACK with the third novel in her social media thriller series. And trust me, this one is everything you hoped it would be…

PUBLISHES IN EBOOK & PAPERBACK: 15th June 2017

What do you do if you witness a murder…but no-one believes you?

When Kate sees a horrific murder streamed live on her laptop, she calls the police in a state of shock. But when they arrive, the video has disappeared – and she can’t prove anything. Desperate to be believed, Kate tries to find out who the girl in the video could be – and who her killer is.

Freddie and Nas are working on a missing persons case, but tensions in the police force are running high and time is ticking. When Kate contacts them, they are the only ones to listen and they start to wonder – are the two cases connected?

Dark, gripping, and flawlessly paced, Trust Me is the brilliant third novel in the hugely popular social media murderer series.

Keep an eye on Facebook, because Angela Clarke will be revealing it on Facebook Live at the same time. You’ll be able to watch her here!
